How COVID-19 has changed the way we learn
The COVID pandemic has changed the way we do business. Staff are working remotely from their homes and restricted travelling, face masks and social distancing have provided challenges to the way we interact and communicate. Zoom and Teams meetings have become the norm, allowing staff all over the world to stay in touch. Live streaming has been utilised more than ever for events, conferences and presentations and the need for online training has increased exponentially.
COVID-19 has caused a rapid shift to remote learning around the world. Businesses and training organisations must adapt to new business models in the hope of keeping up with demand. One major impact of the pandemic has been global school closure and as a result over 1.2 billion children can’t attend their classes. Teaching has been increasingly undertaken online through digital platforms such as language apps, virtual tutoring, video conferencing tools and online learning software. Investments in this method of global education technology is projected to reach over $450 billion AUD by 2025!
According to Sh!ft, research has proven that online learning can be more effective than face to face training:
– On average when learning online, students retain 25-60% more material compared to just 8-10% in a classroom.
– E-learning requires 40-60% less time to learn because students can learn at their own pace, going back and re-reading, skipping, or accelerating through concepts as they choose.
– 42% of companies have said that e-learning has led to increased revenue and has boosted employee engagement by 18%
