6 Powerful Reasons You Need Video In Your Marketing Plan

Video is a powerful tool, you’ve probably heard that many times. But do you really understand why your business would benefit from regularly producing videos to talk to your customers or investors.

Look at it this way, there’s a lot going on for most of us, every day. Work stuff, home stuff, relationship stuff….and if you’re lucky, a bit of time to yourself.  It’s no wonder we find it hard to remember what we need to, let alone the peripheral information we are bombarded with online. It does feel like a bombardment at times, particularly on social media, and if you’re like most people, you only remember about 20% of what you hear; 30% of what you see and 70% of what you see and hear.  That’s right, 70% of what you see and hear. And that is why video works wonders for your business, product or service.

Our video producers at Lasso Productions have known this for quite a while and we’ve seen the huge increase in the use of video in content marketing, some of it’s not great, but some of it’s exceptional. We’ve never taken video lightly, because we know that when you get your message right in video, it is one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful tool you can use.

If you need more convincing, here’s 6 powerful reasons why video should be front and centre of your next marketing campaign.

  1. It gives your brand, product or business better online visibility
According to Comscore, adding a quality video to your website can increase the chance of a front page Google result by 53 times. If you are targeting senior executives, 63% of them visited a vendor site after viewing a video. If you think top brands get it right, take note, 68% of the top retailers now use video as part of their digital marketing strategy because 85% of customers are more likely to make a purchase after watching a product video.
  2. It helps you to stand out
If the statistics in my first point are not enough motivation to produce video, the second reason that video should be front and centre of your next marketing campaign is because it simple helps you to stand out. More than any other medium, video gets you attention. It engages more of your senses, you see it, hear it, it’s colour movement and action; and that is key in the attention-seeking game.
  3. Video delivers better engagement
All that attention results in better engagement from your online audience. Good visual content drives engagement, so consider video not as a one-off event in your social media schedule, but an every week event. Give your audience something they are likely to share with friends, to comment on or subscribe to.
  4. Social media platforms are optimised for video
This point makes perfect sense in light of points one to three. 65% of viewers watch more than three-quarters of a video, which is more than we can say about text-based content. Because video results in excellent consumer engagement, social media platforms are optimising their play and view technologies for video, and favouring it in whatever way they push content to us.
  5. Video has the highest retention rates of all mediums
Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10% when reading it in text. But there’s a caveat, we are talking about a quality video with visuals that make sense and are engaging, complemented by a well-written script – that’s where experienced video producers can help.
  6. Video can evoke emotions around a product, brand or an issue.
Authentic emotional content is a powerful thing. While you may not immediately buy a product or invest in a company due to an emotion-filled video, this type of video does something else, it builds reputation, culture and your ‘business story’ in a more subtle way. And don’t think for a minute that this can’t work in B2B markets. It can, it just needs the right content paired with the right approach.

So that’s our six reasons. Video is a not a trend, it’s growing and is here to stay.  The Cisco Visual Networking Index Whitepaper reported recently that by 2022 nearly 80% of the world’s mobile data traffic will be video. Learning to produce great video that cuts through is going to be even more critical.
